This Project

Staten Island has the highest overdose death rate in New York City. Over 35,000 residents, or 7.6%, suffer from a substance use disorder. Staten Island PPS has created this portal so community members, families, and professionals can access the data in response to the epidemic, while also providing resources and ways to get help.

The Task Force

To accelerate and measure progress on responding to the opioid crisis, the Office of the Staten Island Borough President convened multiple public agencies, community-based organizations, and expert groups who already lead efforts to track and address opioid related harms on Staten Island.

The task force includes the Office of the Borough President, Staten Island Partnership for Community Wellness (SIPCW), Staten Island Performing Provider System (SI PPS), NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Richmond County District Attorney office (RCDA), and New York Police Department (NYPD), with guidance from Northwell Health and John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Our Action Plan

As part of a community-wide strategy to track the opioid epidemic and accelerate the response on Staten Island, 15 critical measures have been developed by the Task Force with input from coalitions, treatment providers, and community members. These measures aim to guide and align response efforts throughout Staten Island, which span across Monitoring the Epidemic, Prevention, Reversal, Treatment, Recovery, and Enforcement areas.
